This is a very hard & long process. *Good Luck*
First you will want to have two cages, one for each glider.
You then must keep the cages near each other for a few days/weeks/months for them to become acquainted. *Be sure not to keep the cages too close for the safety of both gliders!* They can reach father than one would think. Also their tails sometimes dangle from the cages, so please keep that in mind.
You will then want to take the pouches they sleep in & every few days switch them between the two cages. They will then begin to become familiar with each others scent! This being one of the biggest roles in bonding a glider to another or a human.
With time you may want to switch their cages for a few minutes a day, then they can really get to know one an others scent.
After a few weeks you can then try putting the cages closer & see how they react. If they are fine with it maybe allow them to meet. I suggest allowing them to meet in the bathtub. Neither feels at home there.
If they seem fine that way, try putting them together in a new or bleach washed pouch. If they get along from there put them in the less dominant gliders cage. If all seems well there, you can then move onto the cage you going to be keeping them all in. Do NOT leave them alone even for a second.
You wont want to keep them together yet, you will want to keep them in their own cages at least a few more nights. Put the cages close by & repeat the following day for maybe a longer period of time. Before you put them together forever, i suggest washing the cage & everything in them before putting the gliders together to live.
It’s always a good idea to keep another cage around for emergencies too.
Also Be sure NOT to breed your female too young!!!!!!!!! This could be bad for her health. I would wait at LEAST 6 month to a year of age. The older the better as i have found the older females take to motherhood a little better.
Putting a female in with a much older male is asking for trouble! Most times gliders will breed on their own terms, but in some cases when an older male is with a younger female, the older male will rape the female.
So please use your head!
Another good advantage to a good Vet. is you can then get your male glider neutered when you decide that you do not want to breed your gliders anymore. (But remember females can store sperm for up to 50 days.) So you may have one or two more sets of joeys before they ‘call it quits.’
