Glider Info & Breeding

**PLEASE BE SURE GLIDERS ARE LEGAL TO BREED OR EVEN OWN IN YOUR STATE!!!!**

  • Do you have the right size cage for the parents & the joeys?
  • Do you have the right diet for your animals so the female won’t eat the joeys?
  • Do you have an Exotic Vet. lined up ready to go for examinations, & ER Vet. Care?
  • Do you have another cage for the joeys when they should be weaned? (You cannot keep a son or daughter with its mother or father!)But do not Remove the father from the mother & kits when they oop.
  • Have you done all the research on your animal, breeding, during pregnancy, & joeys/weaning?
  • Do you have a place that you know will buy your joeys? (Remember sometimes its not easy to find homes for them. Even highly respectable breeders have troubles finding some of theirs homes.) Most pet stores will not buy them due to needing a USDA license to sell them. (& I would NEVER recommend selling to a pet store! That can cause trauma to the glider!)
  • Remember the more gliders there are, the more it will smell, the more food you will have to feed, the more you will need to water them, play with them, & clean their cage!*& the more $$ you will spend.*
  • Do you have suitable breeding quality animals?

Another good thing to remember, this is NOT a get rich quick plan! It takes a lot to be a breeder- or at least a good one! You need to have documents on your animals, Vet. Care, & much, much research!

Everyone I have seen starting out act like they will be rich after their first two or three litters. That is NOT the case! True, you can get about $150 on up for a glider, but you also have to think about this. There are SO many gliders out there that need to be adopted. Most are rescues that people could not care for because lack of knowledge! Also most of the money you make will go back into them.

You also have to think about the cost that you will spend on food, bedding, toys, Vet. Care, & so on... all of that ADDS up! You certainly don’t make much off them. I in fact don’t make anything off of my animals. Every penny made off of them goes right back into them for food & supplies!

Another good point to look at is, why do you WANT to breed?

Do you want to ‘make money?’ Do you want to just experience the miracle of birth? You really should be breeding to better the species & their genetics. Breeding animals takes a lot of time, money, & patience.
