Origin & Description

A sugar glider, Petaurus breviceps(short headed rope dancer.) comes from Australia, Papa new Guinea, Indonesia or Tasmania. They need warmer temperatures to survive. They generally come from the rainforest & other areas with a lot of trees & rainfall.

A glider in the wild would normally eats bugs, small animals, as well as fruit & other greens. A sugar glider looks a lot like the better known flying squirrel, although it’s a bit different. A Sugar Glider is a marsupial.

A glider doesn’t get very big. About the size of a gerbil or bigger. Their tail is very long, & they come in a whole wide variety of colors, like the chinchillas. Mine are Grey with a black strip down the middle, with a black tip on the tail too. The underside is beige white to an orange like yellow. Sugar gliders are very playful creatures & need a lot of attention to be tame.

Gliders on the other hand can be very territorial, but not so much if you are bonded well, because then they except you as practically one of them! A gliders weight varies, but it tends to be around 100-160 grams. Gliders are nocturnal so they sleep all day, & are up & active at night! That’s one thing to think about before getting one, do you have the time to spend with it when it’s awake?
