Feeding

Hedgehogs are omnivores so they eat, not only plants, but also other animals.
Hegies are scavengers & generally find their food already killed for them, although, they are not bad hunters when they need to be. They feed on many insects, & small animals such as frogs, mice, snakes, & birds. They eat a variety of bugs like caterpillars, worms, spiders, eggs from birds & insects, they also of course they will eat the occasional plant, & or fruit.
In captivity they eat a number of things. Since we aren't 100% sure what their diet is in the wild its best to feed a variety of foods.
Your hedige needs a low fat diet since hedgies being overweight is not uncommon.
I feed my hedgies a wide variety to ensure they are getting all their little bodies need to be happy & healthy.
Here is what we Feed:

High quality cat food, one with the HIGHEST level of meat in it- NOT corn or other fillers! (iams, purina pro plan(we feed), eukanuba, ect. ect)

I also feed a variety of non citrus or dried fruits, a variety of veggies, they rather cooked(of course without any salt or seasoning.)
Other good food to feed on occasion is meats.. like lamb, beef, chicken, fish, ect ect. (again, just remember no seasoning or salts.)

For their bug fix be sure to feed a few bugs a day or every other. (like, crickets, meal worms(not many because they are high in fat),many other insects are also good, just don't over do it. Their diet is mainly made up of bugs in the wild, but you don't want to be feeding a bunch with a high fat content.PLEASE BE SURE NOT TO FEED YOUR HEDGIE BUGS YOU FIND OUTSIDE!!!!!
You can also feed extras like yogurt, cooked eggs(hard or scrambled, just no seasoning), baby foods, cottage cheese. Be creative & give them different choices to see what they like, just use your brain about what you are feeding a 'wild' animal.

You also need to be sure to provide PLENTY of FRESH water for your hedge at ALL times!
DO NOT feed nuts, onions, beans, foods high in fat, candys, dried fruits or veggies, or bird seeds.

If you have a question about what your feeding, please discontinue use until asking someone can help you answer if it's safe or not.
