Introductions

Generally intros with your hogs will go smoothly. Hogs are rather kind animals, so fights are rare.(Although, they do happen, so be on your toes.)

When you get your two hogs that are pedigreed & breedable you will want to make sure they are both healthy before introducing them as if one is sick, it will probly spread to the other if they are caged together. You will also want to allow both of your hogs to settle in at your home & be comfortable with you before you breed them. This will help a lot with the mother not killing the young & whatnot.

When you feel both of your hogs are ready to become parents, simply put them into one of the cages (be sure to intro them on a clean cage day), you can also let them play out of the cage first, just make sure its a 'nutral' place for the both of them.

If they seem to be acting fine you can leave the sight of the cage, but still be near enough to listen for scuffling. A high pitch squeak is from the male & that is normally the exception call. haha. The female normally always sounds upset, but if she is not biting then all should be well.

Watch the both of them for a few hours to make sure nothing happens. Sometimes even if they get along the first night or two, they may not a few nights later.. so be prepared to help one of them out in case of a scuffle.

Signs they are fighting when your not around would be pulled quills, bitten ears, or any other bite marks on the body. Be sure they are both allowing each other to eat & drink as well.. some hogs tend to be mean about their food situations.

If you see blood on your hogs belly, this is not necessarily a bad thing, sometimes when they breed they will make the males belly bleed & i guess you can imagine seeing they have sharpe quills.

Once your hogs are getting along fine they can be caged together for about 3 weeks before the male should be removed. You dont want him in there when the mommy delivers the hoglets, as sometimes the male not only gets in the way, but causes extra stress on the mother, may eat the hoglets, & would more than likely breed the mother back & that would be straining on her health & the hoglets.
