An ounce of prevention- *prevention is key*

One of the first things you will want to do is find a veterinarian that knows how to deal with hedgehogs; the more experienced, the better. A good place to keep the number would be with your hogs things & or where you keep important numbers. Prevention includes a number of steps so your animal can live a happy, healthy, long life!.
This includes:

  • Making sure the cage is clean (like the bedding, cage bars, dishes, water bottles, & other toys/bedding.)

  • Providing a familiar environment, by avoiding switching the caging around & re-locating the cage.

  • Avoiding treats high in fat, sugar, starch, salt and oil. Give other treats in small quantity. Do not Change food often.

  • Give plenty of fresh water & food.

  • Give fresh Water daily, & sterilize bottle often!

  • Make sure stool is not overly dry or watery.

  • Provide stimulaition in the cage & lots of out of the cage time.

There are times that our pets become ill, regardless of all the precautions we have taken. If your hedgie ever shows signs of weight loss, loss of appetite, loose stools, or restlessness, & or something else not like them, you must contact your vet right away. You know your hog best, so always make sure to watch for any signs that may indicate illness or problems with their health.
