If you ever notice that your chinchilla's back is humped up and they are losing weight, you will want to get right in to a Vet. You will need to reconsider its current diet & replace it with one that has a high nutritional value and is low on fats and sugars. Stop feeding ALL treats & only hay, pelltets, & an oat supplement.

This is an illness some chinchillas get when you feed them too much junk & not enough of what they need. Or if they have unproven living conditions. Make sure your cage is big enough & huts are tall enough. Free run time will also help!

With this illness chinchillas normally stay very small & yes, get a hunch in their back. One way to help this disorder is to give a good amount of grain to bulk them up & take them to the Vet. to get special meds. It is curable if caught early, but in some cases the hunch will never go away!

In a lot of cases hunchback is also connected to liver & kidney problems.
