When you are ready to wean your hogs there are just a few things that you need to do.
First off make sure they are at LEAST 6 weeks of age.. any younger can be hard for them to adjust to being on their own & many dont start eating & drinking until about then. You also dont want to wean too late as the hoglets nursing too long will cause too much unneeded stress for the mother, as well as they can become sexually developed by then.
When you wean make sure each hog is eating & drinking on their own. Another big step is to make sure the cage they will be kept in until sold is baby proof like the mother cage they were in.
They can be put together with one another (same sex only) & should get along nicely until they are sold..(Many will be fine enough with one another to be sold as a pair so they have a friend they are already introed to.)
Make sure they have a nice place to hide & sleep in their new cage; you will also want to provide many toys & things to explore. Another good thing to do is make sure the water bottle is low enough that they can realize its there for them.
A really good way to be sure they are still eating & drinking fine on their own is to weigh them everyday from the time they are removed from the mom, until you are SURE they are fine on their own.
Good luck!
