Chinchillas make a wide variety of noises. They make a whooping like squeak, as i have heard it described many times. This is simply a mating noise or a noise of boredom.

They also make a barking noise this is a defense noise, they want you to back of.

Another is kinda like a cluck. That's just simply telling the other or you they want you to leave them alone, similar to the bark.

They also do a very faint squeak. This is just simply them chattering, either with themselves, you or another chilla. There are a few more noises, but i do not know how to describe them or what they mean, so i won't even try. You will hear & learn them as you own the chinchilla.

Its all in the fun of understanding what your pet is telling you. They are all different & all react differently to their surroundings.
