Kits can be weaned at 6 to 8 weeks, some breeders wean at 6 weeks. When they are eating & drink on their own, its safe to wean, but I still think it's safer to wean at the age of at least 8 weeks.
The kits will start to eat around the first week or two, but they aren’t exactly EATING it, they are just basically chewing, so they still need their mothers milk or a supplement.
They will slowly learn to drink from the water bottle as weeks go on. (Make sure you have it low enough for them)
When they are weaned & moved from their mother cage make sure the female & male kits are also in separate cages. Of course always keep an eye on their eating habbits.
It’s important to play with them as much as possible while they are young. This helps to tame them & if you start young it’s a lot easier!
Its best to have at least 4 cages. One for the mom, dad, male kits, & female kits.
You also have to remember to NOT keep a mother with her son, a father with its daughter, or male & female siblings together!! This will cause inbreeding & that is a REALLY BIG NO NO!
If you want to breed, do it to better the species, not to be an irresponsible breeder!
